As a homeschooling mom, I have learned that there are as many reasons to homeschool as there are people who choose to do so.
I love that we can make choices based on the needs of each individual child and are free to change things when they're not working.. as many times as we want to until they ARE working.

I really love how it came naturally, how you followed your child's lead, and continue to do so on a regular basis. ReplyDeleteGreat article! We homeschooled our oldest daughter, but as of right now don't feel we can offer our younger two everything that they need through homeschooling. However, once they've graduated, I'm sure we'll be doing homeschooling of some sort at home. We don't want anyone to go insane from boredom. :)
ReplyDeleteI was home-schooled as well as my two sisters, Later in my school 'life' I enjoyed it a lot. More than just being able to sleep in. Learning at all our own paces really was superb to school. Especially for my sisters who (although intelligent) had problems with the manner in which school was teaching them. At home they succeeded far past what the school had thought was possible for them! Props to you for taking on such a large task with your own boys!

ReplyDeleteI can't think of a better reason to start. When I home schooled my oldest it was born of panicked necessity. I enjoyed it but she wasn't thrilled. However my MIL homeschooled my SIL's all the way through until the youngest decided she wanted to attend the last 3 years at highschool in order to play basketball and try for scholarships. She did it!

Just visited Mamapedia and read your post! I think you guve a great perspective that many homeschool families don't always share with others. You make your decision as you go, and based on what feels right for your family, and I think that's what parenting is all about!

ReplyDeleteGreat job!! I was homeschooled until 4th grade, when I begged to go to public school - when I got there I was way, way ahead academically. I have mixed feelings about not continuing with homeschool - it certainly was effective!

Thanks for sharing. I always wonder how some people decide to homeschool. We would like too, mainly because my husband and I see so much fault with public education. But, how do you homeschool when both parents have to work? Ugh.
