I know it's Day 3 of Stay-At-Home BlogHer '10, and I do have my final closing remarks set up for us BUT BUT BUT I just found out that a post I submitted to mamapedia is published there today.
If you've ever wondered how we became homeschoolers, but felt it was too personal a question to ask, because you're all about the manners here when you come to the castle, then here's the post for you.
Please stop over and see the wonderful community of informative and thought-provoking contributors that make up mamapedia. If it's your first visit there, it'll go on your daily blogroll.
Thank you so much, and think of all those poor, poor tired BlogHer ladies, while we are home just beaming with radiant, well rested skin, and bright eyes lookin' all fresh from the sleep we've had. In our own beds. With no roomies. Or worries of bedbugs.
Ahhhhhh, don't we look good today!.....hope to see you at mamapedia!
Yeah, that's me. All about the manners. Uh huh. Yeah.
ReplyDelete:)
Nice article.
As a homeschooling mom, I have learned that there are as many reasons to homeschool as there are people who choose to do so.
I love that we can make choices based on the needs of each individual child and are free to change things when they're not working.. as many times as we want to until they ARE working.
Happy Saturday.
:)
I just read your wonderful post over at Mamapedia! I did wonder about homeschooling and how you came to choose this for your family...wonderful article! I really love how it came naturally, how you followed your child's lead, and continue to do so on a regular basis. How amazing this sounds and what a true committment to your child's education, thank you so much for sharing. You are an inspiring person, mother, and woman. Thank You :)
ReplyDeleteEmpress -- I enjoyed my first time here -- what a great idea to have your son participate in his own blog -- not something I expect being encouraged at the local school!
ReplyDeleteHi - I just posted a comment on your beautiful, well written post. Loved it - I can tell it was dear to your heart and that it makes you and your family happy campers!
ReplyDeletelooking forward to reading more about your homeschooling experience - off to read!
ReplyDeleteI'm off to read your post!
ReplyDeleteNo bedbugs! EXACTLY.
That's great! Congratulations! Off to read it now!
ReplyDeleteGreat article! We homeschooled our oldest daughter, but as of right now don't feel we can offer our younger two everything that they need through homeschooling. However, once they've graduated, I'm sure we'll be doing homeschooling of some sort at home. We don't want anyone to go insane from boredom. :)
ReplyDeleteI was home-schooled as well as my two sisters, Later in my school 'life' I enjoyed it a lot. More than just being able to sleep in. Learning at all our own paces really was superb to school. Especially for my sisters who (although intelligent) had problems with the manner in which school was teaching them. At home they succeeded far past what the school had thought was possible for them! Props to you for taking on such a large task with your own boys!
ReplyDeleteBravo for the article! As a teacher, I think the most important thing is that the need of your kids are being met, which undoubtedly they are... and then some.
ReplyDeleteI can't think of a better reason to start. When I home schooled my oldest it was born of panicked necessity. I enjoyed it but she wasn't thrilled. However my MIL homeschooled my SIL's all the way through until the youngest decided she wanted to attend the last 3 years at highschool in order to play basketball and try for scholarships. She did it!
ReplyDeleteHi! I saw your blog featured on the Lady Blogger Society. What a hoot; you have an incredible sense of humor and wit. Love your writing style too! I'll be your newest follower once I finish this comment. Do stop by someday if you can! Roz at La Bella Vita!

ReplyDeleteI love your blog buttons and your 'Bungalow 56' pic. Too stinking cute!
Hi Empress! Your post on mamapedia is so well written! Love the perspective on homeschooling -- maybe one day, it'll be a choice I consider. Hope you have an amazing weekend!
ReplyDeleteOff to Mamapedia! You are too funny, Empress. But you're right. I'm just SO well-rested I don't know what to do with myself!
ReplyDeleteps - did I mention my son was up from 2-4am last night? It was AWESOME.
Just visited Mamapedia and read your post! I think you guve a great perspective that many homeschool families don't always share with others. You make your decision as you go, and based on what feels right for your family, and I think that's what parenting is all about!
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, I am feeling quite relaxed, not hung-over, and not worried about bed bugs.
I actually have a separate question about home schooling...I'll email you after I read that article.
ReplyDeleteYep. I'm not jealous of the BlogHer ladies at all. Not at all. :(
ReplyDeleteI do enjoy the sleep in my own bed. I'm off to check out this mamapedia post!
ReplyDeleteInteresting post! I am amazed by homeschooling, however, unfortunately, I just don't think I would be disciplined enough for it.
ReplyDeleteOoh, lala! Congrats on the post!
ReplyDeleteGreat job!! I was homeschooled until 4th grade, when I begged to go to public school - when I got there I was way, way ahead academically. I have mixed feelings about not continuing with homeschool - it certainly was effective!
ReplyDeleteI am heading over to read it. I bet there are a myriad of reasons families choose to homeschool.
ReplyDeleteThere was one reason I didn't go to BlogHer - money!
Blessings,
ReplyDeleteandrea
Congratulations! I am heading over right now.
ReplyDeleteAhhh...thanks for putting BlogHer in perspective. I always knew I could count on you!!!
ReplyDeleteHmmm...I never really thought about the upsides to missing Blogher...though, in my case, I think I'd get a better night's sleep in a hotel bed {still have a night nurser}. lol
ReplyDeleteThank you all for heading over to mamapedial. It's such a great resource.
ReplyDeleteThank you, again!
Thanks for sharing. I always wonder how some people decide to homeschool. We would like too, mainly because my husband and I see so much fault with public education. But, how do you homeschool when both parents have to work? Ugh.
ReplyDeleteOr my greatest fear....what if I don't know the answer to a particular math problem? hahaha
hi A! I just left a comment over there. Thanks for writing this post!
ReplyDeleteThanks for showing that homeschool families can be just a normal as anyone else.
ReplyDeleteThis homeschoolin' mom tips her hat to you!
